Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father passed away, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner in order for them to be able to survive. Ruth was raised in the tenement area of poverty in Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. Her school was closed in two short years to pursue acting. The path she chose to take turned out to be filled with challenges such as in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills in a magazine for crime however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. Following a short stint as a club hat girl, she decided to return home to the United States and quit her position. It was there that she earned a living as an usherette by during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first job as an actor. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
